Dirbs

DIRBS (Device Identification Registration and Blocking System) is a system implemented by Pakistan’s Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to monitor, regulate, and control the use of mobile phones in the country. Its primary goals include ensuring that all devices are legally imported, registered, and tax-compliant. Here’s a breakdown of how DIRBS works:

1. Device Registration: Mobile devices in Pakistan must be registered with PTA. If a device is unregistered or smuggled, it will be blocked from functioning on local mobile networks.

2. IMEI Verification: Each mobile device has a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. Through DIRBS, users can verify if their device’s IMEI is registered and approved for use in Pakistan.

3. Blocking Illegal Devices: Devices that are not compliant with local regulations or imported illegally are flagged by DIRBS. Such phones will be blocked from accessing cellular networks.

4. Device Taxation: DIRBS also supports the collection of customs duties and taxes on imported phones, ensuring that non-compliant devices either pay the necessary fees or are blocked.

### How to Verify or Register a Phone:

– Users can check their phone’s IMEI status by sending an SMS with the device’s IMEI number to 8484, using the PTA website, or using the DIRBS mobile app.

DIRBS helps curb the smuggling of mobile phones, ensure proper taxation, and protect consumers from counterfeit or stolen devices.
